(1) an early version of the song which was recorded on 4 track in Belgrave, Melbourne in 1981. Later remodelled for the debut album "Dead Van Dance", this recording was originally engineered by Ron Stecher & mixed in November 1986 at Blackwing, London, for includion on the album "Lonely Is An Eyesore", a compilation of various 4AD artists, 1987

(2-5) these songs were all recorded on 19 November 1983 for the John Peel show which was broadcast nationally in the UK by the BBC. Track 3 were re-recordings of tracks from their debut album while (tracks 2,4) are previously unreleased songs. First broadcast 28 November 1983 BBC

(6) a second John Peel session was recorded by the same musicians on 2 June 1984. Again, there were four songs: "Carnival Of Light" & "Flowers Of The Sea" were re-recordings of songs from a 12" EP, "Garden Of The Arcane Delights" whilst "Penumbra" & "Panacea" were early versions of tracks that would appear with different titles on Dead Can Dance´s second album. First broadcast 13 June 1984 BBC – previously unreleased

(7) this was one of the four tracks released on "Garden Of The Arcane Delights".

(8-10) the second album "Spleen And Ideal", was recorded between September & November 1985 at Woodbine Street studio. Brendan & Lisa provided most of the instrumentation themselves alongside the featured musicians...

(11-14) recording for the third album, "Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun", took place during April & May 1987, again at Woodbine Street studio & again with Brendan & Lisa performing almost all the music excpet the woodwind & stings

(15) from "The Serpent´s Egg" 4AD, 1988

(16) from the compilation album "A Passage In Time" 4AD, 1991

(1-3) sessions for "The Serpent´s Egg" 1988, were started at Woodbine Street studio with John A.Rivers but were abandoned, with only four songs (including "Song Of Sophia") used on the album.

(4-8) Dead Can Dance´s fifth album, "Aion" 1990, was mostly recorded in Ireland though "The Arrival & The Reunion" was again recorded at Woodbine Street studio.

(9) a song specially recorded for "A Passage In Time" but also released as an additional track (alongside "Bird") on the vinyl version of "Into The Labyrinth" 1991

(10,11) "Into The Labyrinth" 1993 was performed entirely by Brendan & Lisa and produced by Brendan at Quivvy Church. Freed from the time constraints of a commercial studio, they constructed possibly their most personal & cohesive album to date

(12) on 16 August 1993, during a USA tour, Brendan & Lisa appeared on the Santa Monica community radio KCRW show "Morning Becomes Eclectic". Between playing recordingd & discussing their carrer, they performed two songs apiece, live in the studio. "Sloth", entitled "Dragging My Feet" at the time, was later re-recorded for Brendan´s 1999 solo album "Eye Of The Hunter" – previously unreleased

(13) Dean Can Dance´s first show on the USA leg of their world tour, on 10 July 1996 at the Keswick Theatre, Philadelphia, was recorded for broadcast on the USA syndicated radio show „Echoes”, presented by John Diliberto. Previously available on "Echoes Living Room Concerts Volume 2"

(14,15,17) from "Into The Labyrinth" 4AD, 1993

(16) another of the recordings percformed live at KCRW, 1993 – previously unreleased

(8-12) these tracks were released on the 1996 album, "Spiritchaser", track 10 was released exclusively with the "Spiritchaser" Tour program & track 12 is the edited version used for radio promotion in America.

(13) recorded in 1998, this is the completed song from the abandoned sessions at Quivvy Church to record a follow-up album to "Spiritchaser" 1996 – previously unreleased
