Pieczę nad wydawnictwem sprawowała żona muzyka, Vicky, która ściśle współpracowała z muzykami oraz przyjaciółmi artysty. Razem dokonali wyboru z katalogu Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, jak również z solowych dokonań Cornella. Produkcją wydawnictwa zajął się zaufany partner Chrisa Brendan O’Brien, zaś szatą graficzną wieloletni przyjaciel Jeff Ament. „When Bad Does Good” odkryto w prywatnych archiwach Chrisa Cornella. Artysta samodzielnie wyprodukował, nagrał i przygotował miks utworu. Muzyk bardzo lubił ten kawałek, a o jego istnieniu przypomniał wieloletni przyjaciel Cornella, Josh Brolin.

Odkąd Chris odszedł, dokładam wszelkich starań, by dzielić się jego muzyką oraz dziedzictwem z fanami na całym świecie. 17 utworów na „Chris Cornell” to przekrojowe spojrzenie na artystyczny dorobek Cornella: od kultowego „Black Hole Sun” Soundgarden, poprzez refleksyjne „Hunger Strike” Temple of the Dog, aż do poruszającego „Like A Stone” Audioslave. Nie zabrakło także kawałka „You Know My Name”, który został napisany do filmu „Casino Royale”. „Nothing Compares 2 U” zarejestrowane w studiu Sirius XM nigdy wcześniej nie było wydane na płycie.

Wydanie deluxe, poza znacznie dłuższą listą utworów, zawiera także wiele dodatkowych materiałów, w tym m.in. 54-stronicową książkę z niepublikowanymi wcześniej zdjęciami oraz wspomnienia o muzyku napisane przez najbliższych współpracowników (wypowiadają się m.in. Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron czy Tom Morello).

Drugim niepublikowanym wcześniej utworem jest cover „Nothing Compares 2 U”, który został zarejestrowany w studiu radia Sirius XM.
