10 listopada 2014 roku nakładem Columbia Records / Legacy Recordings ukaże się niezwykłe wydawnictwo - sześciopłytowy box „Bootleg Series Vol. 11: The Basement Tapes” będący kompletną kroniką legendarnej sesji artysty z jego zespołem The Band.

Materiał ten powstał z pieczołowicie odrestaurowanych oryginalnych taśm, z których wiele zostało niedawno odnalezionych. Wydawnictwo to dostępne będzie również w wersji dwupłytowej, na której znalazł się wybór najważniejszych utworów powstałych podczas tej sesji

W połowie lat sześćdziesiątych Bob Dylan znalazł się na wyżynach swojej kariery. Artysta ugruntował swoją pozycję wydając płyty, które zachwycały publiczność, jego piosenka „Like A Rolling Stone” stała się przełomowym utworem tamtych czasów a jego koncerty w Stanach Zjednoczonych oraz Europie (w tym kontrowersyjny „elektryczny” występ na Newport Folk Festiwal w 1965 roku) spowodowały, że rosła rzesza jego fanów. Punktem kulminacyjnym tych czasów stał się poważny wypadek motocyklowy artysty w lipcu 1966 roku.

Wracając do zdrowia, pierwszy raz od lat z dala od publiczności Dylan i jego muzycy: Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson oraz Levon Helm zaszyli się w piwnicy małego domu w West Kingston i nagrali tam w ciągu kilku miesięcy ponad sto piosenek. Wśród nich znalazły się późniejsze klasyki takie jak: "I Shall Be Released," "The Mighty Quinn," "This Wheel's On Fire" czy "You Ain't Going Nowhere." p>Plotki o tych nagraniach, które dotarły do fanów spowodowały, że zaczęli oni szukać tych materiałów a to z kolei zapoczątkowało całkiem nowy segment w branży muzycznej – pojawienie się bootlegów. Zdesperowani fani szukali jakichkolwiek fragmentów tych nagrań i w 1969 roku album zatytułowany „Great White Wonder” pojawił się w sklepach muzycznych.

W 1975 roku wytwórnia Columbia Records opublikowała album „Basement Tapes” zawierający szesnaście nagrań ( w tym osiem samego zespołu, bez Dylana).

Wydawnictwo „Bootleg Series Vol. 11: The Basement Tapes” prezentuje nagrania, które odrestaurowano z niedawno odnalezionych taśm i w przeciwieństwie do wydania z 1975 roku brzmienie tych nagrań jest najbardziej zbliżone do brzmienia z lata 1967 roku.
